Growing up in my dad’s garment factory in Beihai, China, my childhood (mine’s Perry, by the way) unfolded amidst piles of fabric, spools of thread, and the secret pixel games on his old phone. Games like Snake, Super Mario, Metal Slug, and all sorts of domestic single-player titles—they were the sole source of joy for a shy kid like me. To me, those virtual worlds felt just as real as the rhythmic clatter-clatter of the sewing machines in the workshop.

Then high school hit, and the fast-fashion frenzy swept in. Shoddy, mass-produced clothes flooded the market, and my dad’s factory—one that stuck to quality—lost its former bustle. Warehouses filled with dull, generic tees… yet those pixelated memories kept gnawing at me. Tiny digital moments, like the sight of Super Mario’s iconic hat, held enormous chunks of my childhood emotions. That’s when it clicked: maybe fabric could turn virtual feelings into real, wearable stories.

Here’s the funny twist: Right after high school, my mom gifted me a pink T-shirt emblazoned with “flexicution upsoar family.” She’d seen “family” and thought it meant “a wonderful family” — turns out, it was just team slang! And to top it off, She asked me to have my hair permed and then combined it with the clothes to form: "粉发向上", calling it “Strive to Make Progress” (a pun on the Chinese phrase for “work hard” and the pink hair). It was a total joke, leaving me torn between laughter and exasperation. But in that moment, a business idea zipped through my mind: custom embroidered clothing, where you stitch whatever you want to express right onto the fabric.
